Children and adults unable to undergo usual dental appointments due to lack of cooperation or physical or mental impairments can request dental treatment under general anaesthesia.
Dental care for children under general anaesthesia
In cooperation with the patient or parents/caregivers, your dentist will decide your child's eligibility regarding dental care under general anaesthesia.
If possible, the paediatric patient should see a dentist beforehand for treatment planning and necessary radiographic imaging of the teeth. The dentist has to know which procedures are deemed necessary.
If the patient is immobile and cannot attend the dental appointment, their representative can consult with the dentist:
In the Department of Paediatric Dentistry, dental care under general anaesthesia is provided by:

Dental care for adults under general anaesthesia
Adults with medical conditions or physical or mental impairments unable to receive ordinary dental treatment are eligible for dental care under general anaesthesia. A referral letter from a specialist physician or family practitioner is mandatory to book an appointment and eligibility for the compensation from Estonian Health Insurance Fund to cover the costs of the services.
If possible, the patient should see a dentist beforehand. A panoramic image of teeth may be necessary for treatment planning and following surgical interventions. During the appointment, the dentist will inform the patient and their representatives regarding the planned dental treatment under general anaesthesia.
Upon coming to your appointment, please have a referral letter from your family practitioner or specialist physician stating your health status to assist the dentist whether you are an outpatient surgery candidate for dental care under anaesthesia. Before the procedure, the dentist may refer the patient for a consultation with an anaesthesiologist if necessary.
Dr Leila Simberg provides dental care for adults under general anaesthesia.
If the patient is immobile and thus unable to come to the dental office, their representative can consult with the dentist in person or via telephone. Kindly book an appointment beforehand.
